Feeding the Mind, Body and Soul
If you’ve ever looked up, when walking down James Street, at just the right time, you’re likely to have caught glimpses of eight arch trellises brimming with greenery softening the skyline. This is The Calile Rooftop Garden, but contrary to the lush and tropical gardens on lower levels, this is the hotel’s kitchen garden, grown for food and freshness and to nourish diners at the hotel’s Lobby Bar. Be it in the lettuce or the legumes, the garlic or the grapevines, human connectivity to the entire life cycle of home-grown produce is evident throughout the garden.
Who better then to inaugurate Rooftop Harvest, The Calile’s series of events founded on this sentiment of honouring food and our connections with it, than Julia Busuttil Nishimura. Known to many as Julia Ostro, Julia is cook, author, and champion of simple, seasonal fare. Her approach is one of warmth and intuition, celebrating the ingredients at hand and the communal experience of dining.
Join Julia as she shares her philosophies on joyous dining that is both flavourful and accessible in a foodie field trip of thoughtful conversations, a live cooking demonstration and a family-style three-course feast. Designed by Julia herself to celebrate the beauty of seasonal eating, each stop will see the Rooftop Garden’s bountiful late summer harvest given the signature unpretentious and deeply nourishing Julia Ostro treatment.
