April 11, 2025
If you’re anything like us then Easter is part spending time with loved ones and part food, food, and even more food.
So why not make the food you’re feasting on over the long weekend that little bit more special by getting it from some of James St’s finest culinary folks. Keep reading to see where you can pick up sweet treats, sit down to savoury meals, or go home with both, because there can never be too much food on your Easter table.
SWEET
Don’t let the name fool you because come Easter, The Nut Market transforms into a chocoholic’s nirvana. We’re talking silky smooth chocolate bunnies, hazelnut hares from Loco Love, your favourite fruits, nuts and savoury snacks dipped and doused in either milk or dark chocolate, Australian made chocolate bilbies that donate to the save the Bilby Fund, and of course, chocolate Easter eggs of all shapes, sizes and flavours.
SAVOURY
ESSA:
Not ones to stick to the status quo, ESSA are putting on an Easter lunch with a twist. Join the gang, alongside winemaker Jimmy from Adlib Wines, on Saturday 19 April for their third instalment of Fried Chicken + Free Wine Tastings. Expect to tuck into succulent fried chicken, sip handmade artisanal wines, boogie to big tunes and to meet and greet with the Adlib winemakers themselves. Hop to it, spots are going fast!
Hellenika:
With Greek Easter and what we know as regular Easter falling on the same day this year, this is your sign to say yassas (hello) to Easter Sunday lunch at Hellenika. Come April 20, Hellenika staples like of zucchini chips, saganaki, chargrilled octopus and spanakopita will be joined on the menu by the special occasion tsoureki, traditional braided bread, and kokkina avga, the striking red Greek eggs.
The Green:
The Green understand the assignment when it comes to Easter eating, putting on the Feast of Feasts for Saturday 19 April. Think homemade flatbread, hummus, babaganoush, charcoal chicken, slow-cooked lamb shoulder, Fattoush and harissa spiced potatoes. And because it wouldn’t be Easter without some form of chocolate, you’ll be rounding out this Middle Eastern feast with a pistachio chocolate tart made with caramelised kataifi pastry and topped with clotted cream.
WHY NOT BOTH?
Can’t make up your mind between sweet and savoury? Lucky for you Jocelyn’s Provisions is your one stop Easter shop with both being cooked up just for the occasion. For our sweet aficionados, there’s hot cross buns two ways – traditional or chocolate, as they are or filled with luscious cream – Easter rocky road, spiced banana and pineapple Easter cupcakes, Easter fondant cookies and a chocolate drip Basque cheesecake that will haunt your dreams for weeks to come.
When you need a break from the sugar, reach for the highly anticipated Mushroom and Leek Pithivier featuring a rich blend of mushrooms, leeks, and potatoes, wrapped in flaky pastry or the Lamb, Mash & Mushy Peas Pie that combines a flavourful savoury lamb and rosemary pie filling with golden sour cream pastry for the culinary equivalent of a warm hug.
