For the James Street Food & Wine Trail we are excited to welcome founders and owners of internationally acclaimed Bar Gyu+, Ioanna Morelli and Hisashi Watanabe for two unique in-venue collaborations.
Bar Gyu+ aka ‘The Fridge Door’ is located in Niseko, Japan. Famous for being ‘hard to find’, the bar gets its nickname from its front door, which is a vintage Coca-Cola vending machine. Bar Gyu+ has been open for over 10 years and only operates during the winter months, serving rare single malt whiskies, organic sake, hot cocktails, and a long menu of original drinks.
The bar has a cozy atmosphere, beautiful forest view and plays hand selected vinyls. Its owners too – Morelli and Wantanabe have become prominent figures on the international bar food scene and the duo will join the James Street Food & Wine Trail for two events sharing their expertise:

An exclusive sake pairing master class and degustation at Harveys Bar + Bistro which will see Head Chef and owner PJ McMIllian create a five-course exclusive dinner to be matched with wine in conjunction with sakes carefully selected and presented by Morelli.

Bar Gyu+ and Jerome Batten of Maker collaborate for a pop-up bar and rare Japanese whiskey tasting. A chance to sample rare whiskies from Japan’s lost distilleries and rare bottlings never seen, or tasted on Australian shores before.
