What is a steak without the mash potatoes, spaghetti Bolognese without the garlic bread, a Sunday roast without all the trimmings? Whilst they are often seen as secondary to the main course, two-time Walkley-winning journalist Virginia Trioli is giving the side dish its moment in the spotlight in her latest book ‘A Bit on the Side’.
Bringing together her passion for life and food, Trioli uses the analogy of the side dish to uncover the joy and richness found in the minutia of day-to-day life. Filled with wisdom, stories, memories and of course recipes, Trioli’s newest work is a reminder that even the smallest things in life can hold the biggest rewards.
In the latest edition of their ongoing series aimed at cultivating curiosity and community, Calile Culture is welcoming Trioli for an insightful yet joyous and wickedly humorous exploration on what makes the meal of life so deliciously delectable.
Presented in partnership with Riverbend Books, join Trioli at The Calile on Thursday 10 October from 7pm as she discusses her new book ‘A Bit on the Side’ in conversation with Editor of the Griffith Review, Carody Culver.
