When worlds collide – bassike and The Calile

Sometimes things just make sense, like jam and cream in a fluffy sponge cake, and wearing sneakers with socks (low or high) – the recent partnership between The Calile Hotel and bassike is another one of those things.

The two ultra-cool brands collided for a look book for the books – bassike’s spring 20 collection look book that is. The Calile Hotel played host to the Australian label’s seasonal campaign shoot, which is ever so fitting with bassike’s only Queensland boutique being located on the ground level of the hotel.

“It was a wonderful way to extend our partnership with the hotel and the community beyond our flagship Brisbane store,” said bassike.

The Calile’s architectural balance of feminine and masculine cues sees similarities to the spring 20 collection, where soft jersey and sharp tailoring meet, and voluminous shapes are styled back with understated rib tanks. From a colour palate perspective, the rich cream travertine and raw concrete surfaces of the hotel complements bassike’s earthy seasonal tones that feature pops of luxe red velvet and deep ink.

“The warm, earthy palette and minimalist shapes of the bassike spring 20 collection are a perfect match for the architectural lines and rich textures that make up The Calile,” said bassike.

The shoot took place earlier this year in the lobby, around the pool and on the roof of the hotel. It was directed by bassike’s co-founders and designers Mary Lou Ryan and Deborah Sams and photographed by acclaimed Australian photographer, Darren McDonald. The imagery evokes the sense of escape we’re all dreaming of however, portrays the hotel in a rather moodier light than usual.
