August may be handing out some wet, wet weather but there’s plenty happening on James St to brighten your day and put a pep in your step. Silk Laundry x Lawn Bowls
Founder Katie Kolodinski started Silk Laundry in 2015 not only with the aim of creating high-quality, long-lasting clothing but also with a great emphasis on sustainability and consumer consciousness. Housed right here on James St, Silk Laundry Brisbane are turning rhetoric into reality with their in-store community building events. Aimed at bringing people together through art, education and of course fashion, their newest is event will showcase the bright and whimsical works of local glasswork artist Lawn Bowls aka Finn O’Sullivan. From funky faced plates to delicate floral spoons, Lawn Bowls glasswork explores the elevation of our domestic spaces through decorative objects. Swing by the store on Saturday 17 August from 9am for a morning of colour and community, complete with a live in-store glass demonstration from Finn herself.
Resale Revolution
Nothing beats the thrill of finding a second-hand designer gem but who has the time or patience to trawl op-shops and antique stores these days? Enter Label Pig – a designer and luxury consignment pop up shop that is, luckily for you, currently being hosted on the ground floor The Calile. Boasting a range of stock that is 100% authentic, score pre-loved and even new goodies from brands like Loewe, Bottega Venetta, JW Anderson and more. The Label Pig pop-up is set to be in business until this weekend only so hustle your bustle and get down to Shop 8, 48 James St (next to By Baby).
For the Love of Lunch
It’s always breakfast this and dinner that, but what about the overlooked middle child of meals? Well, ESSA are putting lunch in the spotlight with their newest dining experience – Friday Lunch! Much like their cult favourite series Five Chefs/Five Plates and Sunday School, the Friday Lunch menu is updated weekly to keep your taste buds on their toes. To give you a little teaser of what’s in store, this week you’ll find the likes of kangaroo tartare, squid ink and black truffle salami, caramelised scallop pici pasta and pork collar with a bay leaf and mustard sauce gracing the menu amongst other tasty treats. District mainstay Cru Bar is back and better than ever following the completion of their much anticipated renovations! From morning meetings, to catching up over a long lunch or rounding out the week with sundowner sips, the crew are back to serving good food, good drinks and good times 7 days a week – we’ll cheers to that.
