Out with the overthinking, In with the eating

Master Your Market Day

Like bread and butter, salt and pepper or wine and cheese, James Street Food + Wine Trail (JSFWT) and Market Day are an inseparable, perfect pair. Our icing on the cake, Market Day is the one time of year where cars are banished, and the James St culinary community are unleashed to transform over 7,500 square metres of James St into a gourmet market of epic proportions.

Sunday 28 July is the day, 10AM – 5PM is the time, here is where to RSVP and below is your friendly neighbourhood guide to nailing down the perfect Market Day strategy.

  1. Pick up a program

Kick decision anxiety to the curb by getting a peak at the morish menus on offer and forget getting lost on the trail with the program’s handy dandy Market Day map by your side. Grab yourself a program from any of the participating restaurants, bars and cafes and plan your feast now.

  1. Set your sights on Chimera

Look to the sky at the intersection of James, Robertson and Doggett Street’s to witness a bronze-replica Camarasaurus skull mounted on a spider crane. For this special edition of Art on James, Zac Langdon-Pole’s surreal and behemoth Chimera dominates the centre of James St, presented in collaboration with the Institute of Modern Art. If your question is ‘why?’ our answer is ‘why not!’ Put on your best palaeontologist cargos and uncover the details here.

  1. Kids get crafty

The Market Day fun and games isn’t just for the big kids, we’ve got a Kids Camp with dinosaur themed craft activities. There’s nothing kids (and let’s be honest adults too) love more than face paint, so of course you will find that at Kids Camp too.

  1. Continue the party

The Market Day party ends at 5pm but you don’t need to call it a day then. Our JSWFT Sizzle Mix will have you prepped and primed with the best dance moves in town so you can let your hips do the talking and continue boogie-ing the night away at our neighbourhood bars with LOS and Sixes and Sevens in particular delivering DJ sets to keep the groove alive.
