Bringing in the new year in Brisbane – more specifically, on James St – is back in a big way. Our culinary creators are serving new year cheer in many forms, so before 2024 knocks on the door you have some booking to do.

Bar Tano is a drop-in anytime destination offering DJ beats and Italian eats. Fine wine, cold brews and creative cocktails are also in their repertoire. If it’s a hot summer’s night, order a Basilicata with gin, cucumber, elderflower, basil and lemon juice – zesty, fresh, fantastic.

Biánca promises twelve shared courses ($150 pp), it’s like Christmas all over again with an Italian spin! Starting with maritozzo, mascarpone caviar and finishing with tiramisu, lamponi you can bet that the dishes in between will be bellissimo! Did we mention a spritz or beer on arrival?

Carmen offers a taste of Tulum in the form of Mexican snacks, starters, shares, tacos and dessert. Naturally, spirits are their speciality with over 21 tequila varieties and over 13 different types of mezcal on the menu. If we can share some wisdom, it would be to sip not shot.

Gemelli is a party, a pizza party no less. Rosse or bianche they have it all, including gluten-free bases too. Antipasti, salumi, pasta, secondi and contorni rounds out the party. Dining tip: the calamari alla griglia is divine… tender Queensland calamari, capers and chilli oil with radicchio and roasted walnut salad, drizzled with honey dressing.

LOS (Land of Smiles) are guaranteeing smiles at midnight with DJ’s spinning tracks from 8pm. The moody green bar is renowned for serving sAme sAme style snacks and sips – a 140-bottle wine list and rare collection of tequila and mezcal. Book to put a smile on your dial or try your luck walking-in on the night.

sAme sAme is spicing things up and it’s not just because of their yellowfin tuna larb! Get set for ten shared courses ($150 pp) featuring a smorgasbord of seafood, Thai-inspired burgers, hearty curries and a whole lot of sweet, sticky and aromatic rice! Enjoy a spritz or a beer on arrival.
